How I turn my blogs into an ATM

Many years ago, there was a Chinese guy who came to one of the Florida Universities to pursue his Ph.D degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering.

His friend brought him to the local campus credit union to open a bank account on the first day of his arrival. While walking into the bank, he saw money coming out of a hole on the wall.

He decided not to show his ignorance so he kept quiet. But deep down in his heart, he thought America was an amazing country where money even flow out of the wall. That night he wrote a letter to his family and close friends that how amazing America was and they must all aimed to come to the land where money came out of the wall …Of course I am sure ATM is everywhere in major cities in China now.

As we all know ATM = Automatic Teller Machine , it is a place where money came out of the wall :).

You ask what is the moral of the story here.

Well, I have to tell you a little secret , I am drawing money from my blogs !

I started blogging as a hobby. As I progressed into my blog journey, I realized I am making a consistent income from my blogs.

In fact, I wrote a post about “My personal review on paid post” in my old seaykopitiam blog.

As a matter of fact, at that time I was not given a whole lot of posts to write but thing has changed a lot since I last wrote that post. I have been presently surprised lately that I have been given a whole lot of posts to write after I submitted my second blog. I believe it is due to my second blog’s better Google page rank and Alexa rank .

My main source of income is writing for paid post and a little increased of income from Google advertisement.

If you like to know which companies I write for, read my post, I have given all the paid post companies names on the post that I just linked. HERE.

In fact I was very skeptical that one can actually make money with Google advertisement because I had put Google advertisement on my blog but all I got was $0.07 cents for a long time .!

This is my first skeptical question to Kuanhoong on his post on : Make Money Online with AuctionAds.

My question to him :
A guru, I put the add on about 1 month ago. How come no $ coming through, aiya. I really think I better stick with my gold/silver investment than making $ in the internet :):).

1 tech question here. I put the adv on one of my site. I cannot see the adv. at my home computer but I can see it at my school computer. My husband suspect our filter is high at home. Is that right ?

His answer :
Jamy, Haha you can’t expect to make money by merely putting up ads. How many visitors do you have daily? As for the ads filtering, you installed any ads blocker or ads filter, if not then you should be able to see your ads, unless your computer is broken :P”

But over the many months since I asked this questions, I have made some money, not a whole lot but a lot more than 0.07cents.

I believe blogosphere will continue to expand and advance to a height and width that we have not imagine or even dream of now !. I personally believe very strongly that eventually we will have a stock market that trade on blogs’ domain names. I believe blogs’ url will just like stocks symbol that you can buy and sell on a blog’s stock market. Yes, you call me crazy now, in 10 years time, I will tell you , “I tell you so !”.

So now how then shall you do ? Jump on the bandwagon, be serious about blogging, treat this as a degree that you undertake in the university but you set your own curriculum and set your own vision and goal !!!

But, with that said, I am still very new in my blogging journey and I would like to learn from you guys who have long turned your blogs into an ATM.

What are some of the means that you monetized your blogs ?

I like to thank you ahead for your sincere inputs from your blogging experience.

Thank you.

Your sincerely
Jamy.

  3. mm, i started blogging quite long ago. alvinlim.wordpress.com is my …3rd? the previous blogs were a foodblog and a business blog.

started blogging hoping that i can learn more from ppl, and share wat i know…and also to know more frens :D din even think of gaining any $$$

my fren told me bout adsense and pay per post…but seriously, i don think adsense can reli earn anyting. PPP, its a bit hard to write a post that ppl actually wanna pay and at the same time, keep to the theme of my blog. :D

maybe i shld email Jamy shi fu for more advice. Don mind if i can earn few bucks from blogging :)

  4. Alvin,

To earn a bit side income like writing for ppp is not that hard.
As long as your blog is 3 months on the blogosphere, they will get you a few post to write now and then.

But as your google rank and alexa rank goes up, they will give you more posts to write.

Say you only register with 1 paid company like PPP, they give you 2 posts to write a day, say $5 for 50 words per post, each week you will get $70 and a month you will get $280.

US $280 is RM$980 ? I think that is pretty alright for a side income, don’t you think so ?

I think it is possible to make $ from google. I think tech guys would know more about the jalan than say me who is a full time housewife , ha ha ha ha. I earn very little from google. When I started, I earned like $0.07 cents. I was so skeptical. That is why you see me asking Kuanhoong, these tech guys people are good in making money with goolge adv., they know where to place their advertisement, how to select a google advs friendly theme. But I am ‘mo cha cha’ one lah. I earn about $7 -$10 a month from google, LOL, but don’t you think it is an improvement from $0.07 cents. Ha ha ha ha.

Don’t call me Sifu, I am only learn to walk but I like to share with people what I knew, very kapo :):).

Email me , when I don’t reply you does not me I ignore you. I either busy with my school works, or house works or other things. But I never not return people mail. I am not big fish yet lah. People who become big fish don’t even reply their readers comments, very common phenomenon, LOL :)

  5. Jamy,

My Singaporean friend told me about the same story. Her Chinese relative came to Singapore, ever since he saw how the Singaporean get their money from a machine, he started to ask for all kind of things from his Singaporean relative, with no shame.

Hey with all these blogging going on, please don’t forget to finish your mother’s story, I’m eagerly waiting for your book to release. :-)

  6. Hi BE,

Thank you for dropping your input.

Thank you for your reminder on this :”Hey with all these blogging going on, please don’t forget to finish your mother’s story, I’m eagerly waiting for your book to release.”

In fact, I was thinking about this these few days. I talked to my hubby and I told him I have been thinking about my times spend on blogging.

In fact, it has been bothering my own conscience that I might be spending too much times on the computer screen.

In fact, on our Wednesday weekly bible studies and prayer meeting, I asked our pastor and a few elder people to pray for me on wisdom to keep a balance on my responsibilities.

I have many things going on at this moment of my life, and it is a constant struggle to make a balance. I am going back to school to further what I had taken on a couple years back. If it is my own money I would not take it too seriously but it was my FIL who sponsored me on my studies, I felt I should be accountable for his money. Finish on what I had started.

With my studies, clinical rotation, papers, homes schooling JJ in the evening , house chores, monitor back home family news really do not give me much time to take up new endeavor for the moment.

So I am going to take a ‘gostung gear’ (reverse gear) approach for the next 9 months on my blogging journey. I will still write my mid week dummies guides for my friends but I might not take up extra activity from that.

I probably will write 2-3 posts a week and not one post or multiple posts a day.

Sometimes I sat down and think about my blogging journey. I ask myself is getting good Alexa’s rank so important, is getting a high stat hits so important to me ? Do I still looking for more money than what I have gain from my gold investment ? Do I want to compromise the times that I should have spend with JJ than blogging ? Why do I need supplement income ? Can I bring my money to my grave ? After I get my license, if I choose to work 1 day, I can and if I choose to work 2-3 days I can, so much flexibility and it is not like a lot of other job where I need to work 9 to 5, 5days a week. Why have I not go to my blogging old buddies’ blog like BE, JT, Criz, Wuching, etc… ? Just because now I rub shoulder with a few tech guys I forget where my root was ? They were the people whom I first met when I first start blogging, they were the people who commented my blog, they were the people who supported me when I first started. Of course not to minimize the efforts of all those tech guys, without them I don’t think I will ever have my own domain name and self host. These people help me the science of blogging.

So with all the questions, I decided to take a more balance approach, ‘gostang gear’. :).

My dear friend, sorry that I have not visit you a lot recently.

    Jamy

  7. Ah… you’ve been hit by the blogger’s guilt too huh, Jamy? Welcome to the club. Heh! Though, I think I shall still maintain writing a personal blog, so, I won’t want to earn money doing that. That’s the theme of my blog :)

  8. Jamy,

Don’t worry, you do what you feel like. There is no obligation to visit my blog everyday. I think that you have done a lot of job switching to more tech related posts. Obviously it attracts a lot more readers. I will have to admit that I prefer your older posts with your personal touch, describing about your experiences and things going on your life with some Chinese and Hokkien words here and there. But people go for other goals so just do what you want.

  9. BE,
Nothing more than a honest talk to a good friend.
No, I will not completely not write my personal life, it will be bits and pieces here and there.
If you notice the comment part still have lots of Hokkien and all the ’siaw aw’, especially talking to Cirnelle :):).

  10. Cirnelle,

Not so much of guilt but more of balance in life.

I still think my family comes first. It is quite a daunting task where I go to school and also homeschool my little one.

You know I am so old fashion that I have never left him over night with anyone all these 4 years ? Yes, I am an old fashion mama :). I am like an old chicken hand who hang on to her baby as long as she can. The only times that little one goes out of my sight is when he goes to school, no day care , no sitter if I can do it myself. So that is why lah, I need to stop looking at my screen more.

My mom has never gone to see a movie or go out socialized at night and leave us at home for 10 years of her life when we were young. I think
subconsciously , I am trying to to beat her record :):):). But with angmo husband I am losing to her because my hubby want us to spend at least 1 evening all by ourself for at least 2 hours since a few weeks ago after he turns 4. He said it is alright to leave him for 2 hrs one evening a week with a friend now as he is old enough.

I wanted to write less but with more quality content for the next 9months. I just read an inspiring article about how a woman earn more with less traffic. It is very inspiring, so I believe it can be done :).

  11. Hi Jamy,

Thanks for visiting my blog the other day!

    Interesting article you have here!

I can see that you are truly enthusiastic about blogging. Nice graphical images too!

  12. You are most welcome.
Thank you, yes I love blogging. It is one of my hobbies :).

  13. […] Reinvestment is one of my favorite business models and one which I believe very strongly in. So, here I am doing the thing that I believe very strongly.
