3 blogs I wish I have known when I started blogging.

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

When I started my blogging journey, I was like an ostrich who buried her head in the sand. I wrote, I wrote, I wrote, I don’t have any readers and no one commented, my husband felt sorry for me, he came to my blog and commented here and there.

As I sojourned on my blogging journey, I realized there’s a whole new world out there, the blogosphere as they called it !

I started to do research and 3 blogs that had came very dear to my heart were none other than :

1. Problogger dot net by Darren Rowse.

I learned from these people and their blogs the art and Science of blogging . I want to thank them here in my blog for helping me in my blog journey. I really wish I have came out of my sand earlier to discover these 3 good blogs, might be my Alexa’s rank would be under 100,000 now :). Well, my new blogger friends here, aren’t you glad you have me ? :), cheers !

However, you might said : “Jamy, I have no desire to write for money, all I want to write are what are on my heart and things that interest me.” Well, you have my up most support on that. It does not mean you have to write “How to…”, “The 5 reasons…”, “The way to blog to wealth…” kind of topics.

These 3 blogs have drawn a lot of readers and admirers internationally in their own unique styles. And you might want to take a look.

1. Kenny Sia.

3. Moonlight and Roses by Uncle Lee.

Kenny Sia and I have one thing in common. Both of us were born in a small city called Kuching which is located on the world third largest island : Borneo Island. At one of his post, Kenny Sia received so many comments that he had to install an auto comment respond tool. I am so proud that someone from my hometown has done so well in the blogosphere !

Zewt writes mostly about Malaysia working life. You can sense a lot of frustration about working life in Malaysia through his writings. I guess a lot of his readers can identify with his writings.

Uncle Lee is a very interesting man. His profile stated that he is ” Retired, young at heart women admirer.” I am sure he is an oriental Julio Iglesias.

This is Uncle Lee pick up line on my post’s comment on 23 things about me.

Uncle Lee said : ”
Hello Pretty lady. Not sure how to address you, as ada two names here. Kayatan, your callsign and Seay. So x’cuse, huh.
WOW! And double Wow! Is that you in profile pic?
Now this is what I love best, kaypoh sibuk to a stranger’s blog, not be knowing (not my English, learned from my contractor old days) male (please forgive me here) or Female and then like playing poker klik open the blog see one shot 3 Aces! WhooHooo!
For a moment thought I kaypoh mistake masuk into Taiwanese actress blog by mistake, check the nama, correct, what.
By the way, I ada confuse sikit, you down under in Incik Crocodile Dundee’s land or G. Bush’s brother’s State, Florida, US?
Knew when see a pretty lady sure ada confusion.
Anyway, I will go peep into your secrets, aha, sounds like Victoria’s… ahemmm. Ha ha.
You have a nice day, pretty lady. UL.”

Be honest, which one of us ladies would not have our ego pumped up ? :). Start with pretty lady end with pretty lady.

Jokes aside, Lee had recently wrote an article about Voices In The Dark, unless your heart is made of rock, I am sure you will be touched by the article and the very vivid pictures of the boat people.

My dear blogger friends and especially my new blogger friends, I wish this post brings you a new insight into blogging. Consider seriously stumble my post and subscribe to my blog.

Thank you and have a nice week ahead.

  3. Hi Jamy, hey, thanks for the kind words and the Pr, ha ha. Buat gua malu la. I blog strictly for fun and from my old diaries that I kept since the 50’s.
It’s also very interesting making friends all over the planet and same time having fun being a kaypoh and discovering lovely ladies like you. Like I said before, its like getting 3 Aces in Poker, ha ha.
Beautiful women always facinate me, not to mention improving my blood circulation.
Jamy, once again, thank you for your kind PR, you have a nice day, and be cool.
    Best regards, UL.

  5. Haha, must agree that Kenny Sia’s writing style is rather unique…and well, he’s very brave. I remember he became famous due to the OSIM U-zap.

  6. Alvin,

Too big of a hat for me to wear :) . “Jamy, yeap, it’s a pleasure to know you in blogosphere. really learn a lot.”. In fact, we learn from one another. Learning is a two way traffic, so is friendship, it is give and take.

I love Uncle Lee writing style @ first sight :).
I was amazed the number of Zewt comments even at the 1st 2 months, he was getting a lot of comments.
Yes, Kenny wrote some controversial topics, I think the most was the sarong girl :).

    So much to learn.

This list is only the tips of the iceberg, there are more coming as I proceed to blog.

    So stay tunned …

  7. My blog sucks. Not many people come to read it too. LOL!!!!

Anyway, I’m sticking with my blogging style. It’s a mixture of personal blog and insights into certain stuff. I don’t want to stick to a particular theme as many people are blogging about work, politics, food, etc…

However, strangely though, my dog’s blog is gaining some popularity amongst the dog owners out there.

I’m a big fan of zewt. Hehehe.. Got some motivation from him about exercising. Thanks zewt, if you drop by this blog. ;-)

  8. Hmmm… Angie, your blog not too bad leh, I will go to comment more often :):).

Been quite busy these few days. Anyway, I am back and ready to get some nice coffees from this kopitiam :-)

  14. That was an amazing story told by U. Lee. I need some time to go through the other blogs you mentioned. My office net connection decided to make life difficult for me, so, I’ve just got home, but its dinner time.

  15. Zewt,
    You are too humble.
There are quite a number of us who live oversea read your post everyday, BE, JT, and many others. I also recommend my Ecafers to visit your blog as well.
Yes, daily blog tips is a good site to find insight on blogging.
You are most welcome for all the tips.

  16. Kuanhoong,
Miss seeing you a few days on the virtual world.
Glad that you are not hijacked by the Aliens :).

    Jamy

  18. Cirnelle,
I know exactly what you mean. I hope the problem will be resolved soon.
Yes, that was an amazing story. Some of these people could be one of my best girlfriend in my university days in Sydney Uni.
I had so many good Vit. friends then.
Sorrow stories made us realized how much we have and should treasure each moment we have !

  19. Shashank,
    Indeed you are right.
I am a new girl on the block on blogosphere but I tried my best to share what I have learned from my journey and hopefully my readers (especially new bloggers readers) can benefit from what I have learned. I know I only knew very little, one day at a time is my motto :):).
Thanks for dropping by and commented.
    Jamy

  20. Pookyma,
Sure if I knew anything about it, ha ha ha ha.
But we have a service on this blog called AskKen Corner, you can write to ken on anything about traffic, blogging issues you might like to know.
    The email is kopi.support@gmail.com
Ken check the email often and he will answers readers all their questions once a week, normally Sunday Indonesian times.
See I am in the US, so my times and Asian times are 12 hours different.
Cheers and hope to see you drop by more often.
    Jamy

  21. whoa, Jamy’s blog is running on 24/7….12 hours Jamy, 12 hours KH? hehehe.

    world is flat, anyone?

maybe i shld ask KH how to install wordpress =_= so much for an IT guy….*sighs*

  22. Hmmm.. Alvin,

What do you mean by running 24/7 ? 12hours KH ?

Our DSL internet is on 24hrs everyday ? I don’t get you ?

We have 2 tech guest writers here.

1 is AskKen where bloggers write in anytime during the week to the email : kopi.support@gmail.com
Ken would read the emails and answer them on Indonesian Saturday or Sunday morning.
It is up to him when he see fits.
When there is no questions,he will post what he thinks are valueable for the readers.
    2. Kuanhoong writes on Friday on Techtalk. Kuanhoong picks whatever topics he wanted to talk on.

The reasons I invited them is because I have a network of really new bloggers who have some very basic questions about blogging. I thought these 2 tech gurus might help them quite a fair bit.

In fact, we really don’t know how far it will go because I like to become a volunteer to our local community on blogging.

We have a lot of actives retirees , which we called the North bird, they have homes in the North and have their 2nd homes in the South. We have lots of programs at the community college and libraries cater for their needs and interest. Ranges from “Bonsai 101″ to “Tai Chi”, I think blogging would be a neat hobby to pick up, don’t you think ?

    Jamy

  23. Thank you, Jamy, for those helpful hints you give on your blog, and the links, concerning blogging tips. Those are really helpful. I like the ostrich and the monkey graphics too—funny! When your name and blog site become listed in Wikipedia (which may be soon!), please let us know!

  24. Jeff,
Thanks for dropping by and leave a comment.
Hmmm…I thought everyone can create and edit on Wikipedia ? I thought it is an open document ?
Might be I am wrong, need to do research.
Never thought of that, too many things to do with my blogging stuff.
Glad that the links are helpful to you. Anytime.
    Jamy

  25. You’re too kind too… to have asked people to read your blogs. You know, your seay kopitiam made me feel jealous of life on land ‘with grass’. i harbour much hope to be there one day :)

By the way, I wonder if you have anything to say about my latest entry.

  26. Zewt,

    No problem at all.

Let me know if there is anything I can (or my spouse) can be of help on the ‘grass’ thing. I will help on anything within my mean.

Yes, understand what you are coming from.

I have lived in kangaroo land for 15yrs. As Cirnelle pick up my sinc. trait, always walk the talk kind of person, never said I am a patriotic M. , on the other hand die hard to get a kangaroo card.

Get too comfortable in the head hunter land until one day wait up realized who’s going to share everything I have (don’t have a lot except my brain lah :)).

My philosophy is if you move to the grass, it is a rewrite of history. Mom’s side family from Cina’s imperial palace, grandma came down Nanyang with 18maids. Mom got married with 1/4 local natives. Entire Lim culture rewrite from her down. Uncle worst ! cos he carried Lim name.

Still think parents are most important factor though social media, surrounding play big factor.

This grass place is very diversify, you get very conservative, you get very liberal.

This is our model and we are part of the movement.

Takes times, patience and lots of sacrify ! No short cut, not an easy job, this parenting thingy.

If children left for others (daycare, sitters, state) to take care, what to expect ? Who has more influence on them ? Definitely not you.
Very simple math : time with parents = a , time with others = b, find out the % then you know the scale.
Quality time, they said, not quantity. I said sure looks at teens now and I won’t even want to debate.

I gave up everything that is “ME” for the conviction. Not an easy decision. No work, no status, no pay, no hair salon, no new clothes, no new shoes, no new car and no new books. I think the most uncomfortable part that need a lot of adjustment is getting money from spouse :), panhandling :).

But it is alright, got to spend a lot of times with him. Comfortable to know where his influence comes from.

At least at this side of the grass, got option to home school and the whole group is incredible big. Very cool network.

No problem lah if you work hard, nurture, pray to HIM for wisdom , it should work lah, my opinion, see a lot of good example from the group and network.

    Jamy

  27. Jamy..is ok…i also donno what i was talking last nite. hahaha.

  28. Don’t worry about it, Alvin, go to Uncle Lee blog , he will teach you more ‘mabok’ tricks :).

  29. am actually looking at kangaroo land… :P … well, if things go according to plan… i may be there by the end of next year.

will be a big challenge indeed, wonder what God has in store for me, if indeed that is His plan.

  30. Never thought of settle in kangaroo land. Very lean towards socialist. Might have changed now.

Can you believe, live there 15yrs, not even go back for cuti once. Let my kangaroo greencard expire, never go back renew. Don’t like their system. Too laid back, too slow for me. My people a lot there from mom bro wife to my own bro wife all kangaroo people but both of them prefer to live in headhunter land, of course their skin white, special treatment, servants, drivers, mana ada in kangaroo land ?

Hses in big cities very expensive, not much option in smaller cities, no work. Big cities only choice. Hses big cities hses start 300k+., jobs also not so “keng”. Heavy taxes, net very small in relation to gross. At the end, nothing left. Bad about socialist, they took your money before you even have the chance to spend it. [ have to know you are speaking to a true blue capitalist, otherwise I wont’ be writing paid post lah :):)]., but not all people like me :).

Liberty land more choices. Live in kampung can do work online, lots of moonlighting job. Kampung life good, big lands, fresh air and good to bring up family.

Have to say, liberty land steal my heart because of their system - decentralize. Margaret Thatcher learned that long time ago.

  31. hahaa…. i think i have had enough of this fast pace life… want some peace and quiet… want the laid back kinda life for a while and i heard aussie suits me.

jamy… is that an adult-friend-finder ad on top???

  32. Adult friend finder, where ? I didn’t see ? All blogging ads ?

Ok, for a while, it is ok “want the laid back kinda life for a while and i heard aussie suits me.”

Don’t worry, take one day at a time. Remember don’t burn bridges is my own advice.

    Jamy
