Flash cards – Weekly give away (2) – 10/12/7 .

By Jamy

I decided to have Friday give away every week as a mean of communication with my readers. My blog does not have a whole lot of traffic so I don’t think I will be bankrupt too soon with my small give away Friday.

All my give away will be education, travel and simple living related items.

This week my give away price are 5 sets of flash cards.

I personally find flash card an excellent education tools for young ones.

I found children are more perceptive to visual aids.

I started my son on flash card learning as young as 6 months old.

As young as 6months old, whenever I took him out on card rides, I would stick a flash card at the back of my car seat that faces his baby seat.

The card focus his visual field. As the days went by, he recognized objects with words and as he grew older, he can recognized objects, words and sounds. The auditory part came later. Eventually this is the final step : A is for apple and apple is spelled with “a p p l e”.

As human, auditory is the last function we will lost when we breath our last.

I taught my 4 years old on Phonics when he was 2 1/2 years old. It is amazing that now he can read words that I have never taught him before, he put together words with the alphabets with phonics skill he has acquired.

I learned sight words growing up, so I complement some sight words in his learning process.

I was reading a post by Doris on DIY. She talked about hiring their good friend to help Denice and Duncan with their reading.

We are hiring our good friend, Kathy who is a trained teacher, to help Denice and Duncan with their reading. Denice and Duncan have been in a classroom environment since they were two years old but when it comes to recognizing letters and numbers, they are not at a level which I consider satisfactory. That is why I am getting Kathy to help them bring up their reading skills level. Half an hour every day for each of them.

If you read her daughter and her teaching picture, you would notice flash card as one of the teaching tools.

My 4 years old can read a 7 years old book, I contribute much of his reading skill to flash card and phonic skill.

When I gave him a packet of fruit punch to drink but said ” JJ , please drink your orange juice.” He would correct me and said :”Mama, this is not orange juice, it is fruit punch.” I thought “Ya right, it is fruit punch.”

There are alphabets, numbers, phonics or sight word flash cards. Let us start with alphabets, shall we ?

All you have to do is :

1. Write a small post about my Friday give away on your blog (no need to elaborate), put a comment that link to your post on the comment column on this post.
2. Send me your address and your name.

My Friday give away is no mean a big scale like these :
1. Problogger Birthday Bash give away of $54,000, here.

2. John Cow’s $500, here.

but mine is a way of giving mothers guidance on the path that I have walked.

There might be some Fridays when the give away gifts are not in term of monetary rewards but information which might benefit you for life, for eg. how to find an alternative education route for your child(ren) when they are ready to go college, instead of spending RM$300k, US$300k, there are alternative route that might cost you less than RM$10k or US$2k or undervalue gold and silver stocks which will help you retire early than you have ever imagined. So stayed tunned with Friday give away.

** There is no expire date for this give away. Once 5 of them are given out, then the give away is ended.

    Cirnelle,

No , I am not offended. It is healthy to have different of opinions.

During Einstein era, there were a lot of things our generation enjoy, he might not have.

But here in the US, a lot of marketing gurus are using Einstein name for their children education toys. I believe most American mothers knew about this :

    Baby Einstein :

I used a lot of baby Einstein for my child when he was a baby. But then I realized there were a lot of products that were more economical and even better at the library.

One of them I could think of is Mozart classical reading :) :). I hope I can introduce all expecting mothers to acquire that video tape.

    It’s an amazing visual tape.
It is visual and auditory education video. It is so well done but not marketed to the main stream market.

I am not sure that could be the tape that had stimulated my baby brain ! He start to recognized key notes as young as 18months.

Now he is playing a 6 years old curriculum piano. Last week, I was listening to him playing while he was at his piano teacher place. In fact, I cried because I was so touched and amazed that he is so good in doing what he was doing , playing piano and reading the notes !

I am not sure all those education tools play some part on his early advancement in learning.

  2. I honestly do not mean you any offence, but I had just come back from the bookstore that showcased a child rearing book titled “Einstein Never Used Flash Cards”. What is this, international flash the flashcard day? :P

Write a post, huh? You forgot to put a deadline to the assignment. :D
