A mother loves know no limit.

A dedicated wife and mother.
I know I am not as dedicated mother to my little boy as my mother has been with the 3 of us, me, my brother and my sister. I remembered my mom would wake up at 4am, shine or rain to prepare for her day for the family. First she would go ’sembayan’ (pray) for her family wealth being, especailly me for I have many sickness then. Then she would cycled to the market to get fresh meats and vegetables from the market, the sun was still sleeping when my mom cycled out of our home.

A primitive society.
I think at that moment , the society which I lived , vitamin is not as available as here in the US and people are not as informed as here in the US on the different kind of food groups. For eg. what are the food groups that are high in protein, carb, mineral such as Calcium, potassium, sodium, iron, forlic acid or food group in general ?. It is a tradition that had passed down to her that a young child should eat pig liver porridge every morning to make him or her strong.

In fact, the rational behind the primitive thinking is that pig liver is good because there are a lot of good stuff in pig live. But in fact, liver stores many factors essential for hemoglobin building–for example it holds the major stores of iron and the essential factor missing in pernicious anemia.

Pig liver is rich in iron and if you don’t have enough iron, you can have iron-deficient anemia which is common to children whose diet lack it : Iron deficiency anemia from mayoclinic.com

A lot of times many of the old wife tales and myths in the society that I used to live are very interesting. In fact, many of them can be explained by my understanding in Science and medicine. I believe in the primitive society such as the one which I was born into had a whole lot of statistics which people collected over events and experiences but had no answer to what happened, they did observe a trend.

Events happened —————> lead to this ———> observation (trend), but why ?

Because if you don’t do this, you have bad karma, you will be punish by some gods or goddesses or because grandmother said so. :)

The observations without an explanation prompt them to come out with various kind of mythical answers which I called old wild tales or superstitious.

Ever since I was young, I have a very curious mind. I cannot accept answers from my mom such as ‘Don’t ask too much, we had always do like that and it worked, so stop asking…”.

I always believe most things happen with a reason and so that lead to my quest for learning and that has not stopped at 46 with my institutional learning. Yes, I still have more than 200days to complete my last leg :) .

Well, days in and day out for the many years that I lived at my parents home, hardly any days had I missed a pig liver porridge breakfast. My supply of course terminated when I left home for studies in Australia.

Now that I am a mother, I truly appreciate my poor mother hard work. She could have 2 hours of extra sleep if her society has lots of stores that sell iron supplement pills :) . Iron insufficient anemia is the kind of anemia that you lack iron. Anemia is a condition which you don’t have sufficient hemoglobin in your RBC. Hemoglobin is what transport oxygen and if you don’t have enough oxygen in your blood, you are going to get tired more than a normal person.

And now I have a picky eater son, look what I have prepare for him a colorful sandwich on the top of this post !

This post is dedicated to all mothers and all of you who has mother(s), this post is dedicate to them. Stumble the post, if you are a mother or have mother(s).

  1. Jamy,
Nice that you are inheriting your mother’s care to your son. The Malaysian society has since changed. Nowadays its probably the maid who prepares the breakfast for the kid. Fabien commented that some mother in Malaysia are handicapped, they need a lot of help (maid, grandma, relative) to do their job. They can’t even cook a meal for the kids. One day when the kid grows up, they won’t have the nice memory like you, that your mother cooked you pig liver porridge, he or her memory would be the maid went out to buy that fried mee hoon for him/her.

His comment strikes me and I realized it’s kind of true. Some Malaysian hire tutors for their kid, that literally they assign the parents’ work to someone else.

When I was working in Brunei, 1/2 of the church chairs were occupied by Filipino’s maids. Some church members have 3 maids. Many of those kids who have Filipino’s maid were rude and arrogant. I did not like the way these kids treat their maids and so are the moms and dads.
Truly I don’t understand how on earth these people call themselves Christians, the followers of Jesus.
Your hubby was right, these women are truly handicap. They don’t do nothing except boss around. I also don’t understand why the husband marry them, help them spend their visa card on LV bags ?

When they have their kids lepaing on the malls, spending their money like burning cigerates, these mothers asked why ? What do they think if they don’t spend times teaching their kids.

Yes, you are right, I respect my mother for her dedication, hard work, scarify that she did for the family. In fact, I am going to write a book on her behalf.

Thks BE, I think that is why I still carry on the tradition on cooking porridge for my hubby :) .
