People will revolt when they are oppressed for too long.

A kudos to this young Malaysian girl (18) who posted this blog and was involved in the rally.

And of course Zewt’s post : 10 November: A day to remember
There are a lot of Malaysian bloggers who felt that there are 2 things they will never blog , 1 is politics and the other is religion. I respect their stands but if everyone think like that, Malaysia will never be like America, a country “Of the people, by the people, for the people”.
Religion and politics are the blood and culture of the country. It is what define you, your identity ! How could you not blog about politics and religion ? Think my friends, as much as you want to deny it, hide under the carpet, you have to face it, religion, politics…
Indonesian Chinese don’t fight, look what fate they get themselves into ? Thousands, thousands of Chinese Christians were killed by the Muslims. Many Indonesians Chinese live in fear, live in compromise because they do not want to rock the boats.
Singaporeans was brave and smart, they broke off from Malaysia, see what kind of living standard they are enjoying now ? Singapore currency is as high as Australia currency. In the late 70’s, Australia dollar is worth 3 times Singapore dollar. Singapore has gone a long way after she separated from Malaysia.
Think about it my dear young Malaysia readers. Think for your future generation. You cannot migrate all the times !

This is really a big event in Malaysia on 10 Nov.
Ok I din go as I went back to my hometown..
Democracy you can do it in the voting booth, not on the streets…
…
Michael Woo,
Sometimes to achieve democracy, blood need to be shed. We (Americans) shed our bloods to get democracy from the British.
If not for Yesterday (American Veteran Day Nov 11th), my mother homeland (Malaysia) would still be under Japanese control (2nd World War). If not for Pearl harbor, many South East Asia countries would still be living under the Japanese occupation. No, we did not vote to stop the Japanese, we dropped the bomb to make the Japanese surrender !
Apparently, you must not have read history. Too busy reading SEO books ? Only with country like America who provide you with equal opportunity and democracy will produce an online entrepreneur as great as shoemoney, and of course he does not need to use naked woman or sexy woman to lure readers. A degrading act to woman rights in America. Yes,I read your blog and know your blog and its theme.
Yes, it is only in country who practice democracy votes count, vote means nothing to me when they can be bought with RM$100 per family.
Sorry Michael, if making money online is your only concern, man, you come to the wrong place and we are not the best of friends because though I am into money but I am also into anything that deal with truth. This blog is about Pro-truth, not Pro-corruption like Malaysia politics. Glad that I am not under ISA but have the rights to 1st Amendment like all Americans have.
Why would the Malaysian people suffered bad health care when your prime minister late wife can come to our good olei America to treat her cancer ? Tell me why ?
Jamy
Keeyit,
Yes, I see that it is a big event !
Jamy… i must say… this entry is brilliant… just a short 3 para entry… it has got so much substance…
indeed… if we are not migrating… we must not live as though there’s gonna be sunshine everyday.
Eh, look I don’t mean to offend you, but Malaysia is democratic enough.. Sure Chinese like me is oppressed, we have limited rights etc, but it doesn’t mean the government isn’t good right?
America is a good country - land of freedom, they spilt blood in the past, but when was that? 50 years ago? Things now and then is different, you don’t spill blood anymore - else you are just branded as a heretic.. extremist.. like what’s happening now..
But looking at those videos doesn’t show anything.. when was the last time you visited malaysia? At least we don’t have senseless killings on the street or something like that..
Like I say, you want democracy, do it in the voting booth.. that’s what most fair to you and to me.. not on the streets..
I hope you can always find freedom in the voting booth. But I am always scared for my Malaysian Chinese friends. Fortunately the ethnic Malays seem to be less extreme than Indonesian. I pray everyday for my friends, Malay and Chinese, to be safe, just the same.
not only indonesia chinese live in fear malaysia chinese also live in fear.how many chinese are there for the bersih rally? what will happened if 80% of them are chinese?why are the chinese migrating?
malaysia can never be like s’pore because its a racist country.
Michael,
No, I am not offended. I hope I don’t offend you with my straight forwardness.
You are too naive to even think Malaysia is democratic. Malaysia is the world top corrupted countries.
I said the last time in case you still do not understand what I mean : Vote will only count if it is not bought. In Malaysia, the ruling party buy votes, they would pay mere RM$10 to get vote.
You don’t think I am plucking some thing out of the air ? My mom kampung is a classic example. Every election the ruling party will bring in lorry to take the kampung people to vote and paid each one of them $10 to vote for the ruling party.
I don’t know if you are living in the cave or someone in the outerspace, how could you said that a country government is good when part of the population has limited rights ? What kind of logic is that ? “Sure Chinese like me is oppressed, we have limited rights etc, but it doesn’t mean the government isn’t good right?”. I sure will hesitate to subscribe to your blog feeds until you get your logic right.
On this :”America is a good country - land of freedom, they spilt blood in the past, but when was that? 50 years ago?, I have to say, America is not a perfect country, there is no perfect country in this world, she has her own issues and problems but at least everyone is equal and has the rights to life . We constantly fight for things or issues if we do not feel right about certain issues, (yes we still go on street now) and at least we have a chance to fight for what we believe is right. Do you really think these people in the rally will be able to obtain the permit, think twice. This government is so oppressive, you still do not realize or you are living in some caves in Malaysia ? Do you see the TV where the guy (Tun Hussein Onn son ? waved the Kris infront of the TV, what did that mean to the future fate of Chinese Malaysia, it is for you to find out the next 10 years, since you are living there and think it is a democratic country )”
If I am correct to describe you :
a. You are an ignorant young man who does not read history.
b. Your dad or mom are rich and some datuk or datin son, who don’t have to go through the struggles of most middle income families in Malaysia go through
c. You are like a lot of people in Malaysia who do not want to think too much. Live life as it is, what can I do, I am only a no body.
Gee, what do you mean, you could not see nothing from the video. Listen carefully to the first video, there is a Matsalleh trying to tell you that the police are spraying chemical on the people even though it is suppose to be peaceful rally ! GET IT ?
I last visited Malaysia Nov 2006. I am visiting again in Dec 2007. I knew Malaysia pretty well though I don’t live there.
Take care and I hope you go read some history book beside SEO. What is the point of making all the money when one day you end up a refugee like Vietnamese boat people ?
Thanks Zewt. I hope I do my part in spreading the meaning of democracy.
SA, I think this rally is more about corruption than religion. The people are sick of the government corrupt system.
Kehoe,
Trust me, we can be like Singapore if we have more men who have balls : “malaysia can never be like s’pore because its a racist country.”
The problem with Malaysia are Malaysian Chinese men are as corrupted as the ruling Malays. And those who are not corrupted do not have the balls(guts) like Lee Kuang Kwee of Singapore Premier has. They are tikus, that is why the Chinese Malaysian are spread all over the world. They are scared to rock the boat.
Like I said a lot of times democracy comes with blood ! Vision, blood, sacrify!
it’s funny how ignorance people can be.
the rally was to demand electoral reform, and yet people tell us to do it on the voting booth rather than the streets. how is that possible when SPR and the current ruling party are corrupted?.
People know how to complain, expressing their discomfort in this country, but when the opportunity came, they did nothing about it.
you have no idea what democracy means when you said Malaysia is a democratic country.
Hi Spa,
Thanks for dropping by and leave comments.
Like I said Michael is either living in some caves in Malaysia or he never read his history or he is some Datuk and Datik son.
Ignorance is not a bliss, it will hurt you in the long run !
I don’t usually write Malaysia politics in this blog as I write more of America politics but this time I really cannot tahan, I need to write, to write, to spread the awareness of democracy.
One of the themes of this blog is PRO-Truth !
Nice post. Succinct and to the point!
I hope that M’sians will open their eyes to what is going on around them. For this will not just affect their current life, but their children and children’s children too.
Angie,
Thanks to Zewt who link this post in his blog. I got some people thinking of the relevancy of religion, politics and identity. Some might not agree, that is fine with me, that is what democracy is about, you don’t have to necessary with the author but if the article does provoke the reader to think, that it does its job. Thanks Angie for supporting this blog and come by often and comment.
precisely … you can’t separate politics as you’re part of it … your live, your lifestyle, your kids future etc are part of it … subset of it …
cheers …
Hi Stocktube,
