Do entrepreneurs and billionaires have different brain anatomy or different neurotransmitters than non-entrepreneurs and non-billionaires ?

I do not think we can have an answer to that question.

However, according to Entrepreneur Magazine’s February 2008 cover story about Who Wants to Be a Billionaire? by Andrea Cooper. she shed some lights on

Entrepreneurs who have reached the pinnacle of financial success reveal how you can develop the “billionaire mind-set.”

In her article, she highlights some of the characteristics of entrepreneurs:

The wealthiest entrepreneurs share some common characteristics, according to a 2007 study on affluence in the U.S. from American Express Publishing and The Harrison Group. Researchers looked at the top half of the top 1 percent of America’s wealthiest individuals–those who have assets of $5 million and above. (The sampling was representative of the top 600,000 households in the U.S., whose mean value of household assets is $30.6 million.) Within this data set, they compared entrepreneurs with nonentrepreneurs. Among the findings:

* Entrepreneurs are less likely to be college graduates than non-entrepreneurs.
* They are more likely to attribute their success to determination, while nonentrepreneurs credit intelligence and education.
* They say their happiness increases as they accumulate more money.
* They are more likely to say money brings them self-confidence, while nonentrepreneurs say it brings them security.

In her articles, she also shares about the book titled How to Be a Billionaire : Proven Strategies from the Titans of Wealth by Author Martin Fridson who identified some of the same qualities in his research for How to Be a Billionaire.

According to Martin Fridson,

“Billionaires are not satisfied with as much money as they’re ever likely to spend in their lives, so there’s clearly something going on beyond mere material satisfaction.” These entrepreneurs are competitive, desiring to surpass not only their rivals, but also their own past achievements. Such people can often find a way to turn defeat into victory, proving themselves right in their business judgments again and again.

What are your opinions on this ?

  1. i like the part – money gives them self confidence, not security. for most people, it gives them the security.

but the part where more money gives them more happiness…….mm, somehow it doesnt sound so nice to me.

    Alvin,

Yes, I agree with you the not so nice feeling : “where more money gives them more happiness”, I think the love of money make people miserable. Money is a tool, it will never bring you more happiness. I think the purpose of how you make good use of the money brings happiness.

I think people who are rich and can make a difference or a change in people life feel happy being rich, eg. Melinda and Bill Gates where their money make changes in people life : eradicate Malaria in the 3rd world. Though Bill wanted to build that mansion but Melinda would rather have a simple house.

I was sharing with a good friend that unless human being find a purpose in life, achievement or more money will not give them happiness.

I think because of my work, I see too many sickness, be it physical or mental, I see there is no purpose in life unless there is a higher being that you can turn to. Death is the ultimate unless there is an infinite.

  3. jamy…u r wrong. money n achievement CAN bring people happiness….a short term happiness. :)

with enuf money, i can give more and contribute more. can give my family a better life. thats what i wan wif money — maybe few nice stuff for myself but thats about it.

without any purpose of life……..even if u have 10 billion dollar at ur disposal, what do u wanna do with it? buy more IPOD, LV, BMW? hhaha. u can only use that much anyway. and once u get all those, they will all be the same for you.

i’m not a Christian. i’m a free-thinker + buddhist. but i believe we are here in this world to give. not to live for ourselves, but to help those who are less fortunate than we are.

there’s no way we can make this world a better place by changing how others think or behave. but we can at least, change ourselves.

    Alvin,
I agree with you : “a short term happiness.”
How could you be a free thinker + Buddhist. That is the first time I heard that a person is a free thinker and yet believe in the teaching of Buddha :) .
Why not Alvin : “there’s no way we can make this world a better place by changing how others think or behave. but we can at least, change ourselves.” ? Behavior is a result of thoughts ? If you change (or educate people) on their thoughts, their behavior will change.
Safe sex education help people to beware of AIDS and that can change people sex behavior.
Your behaviors are a result of education thoughts.
Of course we can make this world a better place by changing how others think or behave !

  5. we can only influence people with our teachings n sharing….it is still up to them to change themselves. by teaching them about AIDS n safe sex, they will still do the wrong thing if they do not want to change. true, we can play maybe 20-40% of the changes in them…but the majority still lies with themselves.

but for ourselves, we hold 100% of the control. that’s what i believe in. that’s why it’s easier to change ourselves for the better. everyone should think that way and world will definitely be a nicer place.

….i know of some arrogant ppl who think he is right n the rest are wrong so he doesnt want change himself. he wants others to change instead. something like this will never bring any good to the society.

buddhist coz i follow my parents. i still pray but i basically have minimal knowledge on buddhism. i hardly go to temple. i pray at home.
freethinker because i blif there r Gods up there. all the religions are real. i believe they are like what we are here, in this world. not sure if u call that a freethinker. haha
