Whose pork is cheaper ? Albies or Publix.
Well, I did go to Publix to get the Albertson’s ads buy 1 get 2 free pork. However, after calculation, I found Publix whole pork picnic is more economical than that of Albertson’s buy 1 get 2 free pork.
Publix whole pork picnic was 98cents a lb, half pork picnic was $1.09 a lb.
The publix’s equivalent of albertson’s kind of whole pork was flavored and packed in individual pack and each of the pack priced around $13 to $15 (each pack is like 2.5 to 3lb), so you are paying like $1.66/lb. This is how I get the $1.66 figure : $4.99/3lbs (you get 3lbs for the price of 1lb)
After calculation, I end up buying the Publix’s $1.09 pork and I used 2 $5 off $25 coupons (1 from Rite Aid and 1 from CVS). I got about 20lb of meat and 1 pack of Knor gelatin and some banana.
Meat was ~ $21
Knor gelation = $1.39
Banana ~$2
Total cost = $25
Total coupon used = $15
Total paid = $11
I used 2 $5off$25(1 Rite Aid and 1 CVS): Rite Aid HERE, CVS I got it via email, they often send $5off$25 to their CVS card holder but make sure you register either on line or get the form from their stores, also I always scanned my CVS card @ their coupons scanning machine when I enter CVS store. Besides the 2 $5 coupons, I also have a Knor $4 coupons (HERE).
20lbs of pork for $11, I think it is a good deal.
I cooked one pack of the pork last night :
Recipes (dedicated to my reader Tammy)
3 canned of diet pepsi
3 table spoon of Publix’s B.B.Q sauce
Cook overnight in Crock pot
Pulled the meat out and mix with Hommel’s Chilli with beans (got them while back when they have sales).
4 of these container full of meat and bean would last us 3days for lunch and dinner.
Total Cost = Less than $5, meat was $3.35 a pack, 3 pack of Hommel Chilli with beans = $1.25, 3 diet pepsi = 30cents, B.B.Q sauce free.
3 days for $5 ? Definitely more economical than $5 a dinner ? LOL
Some of you might remember the Curly Pulled Pork while back in Publix’s sale, yes they were the container that I got from Curly Pulled Pork
What a frugal way to live ?
One of the issues I have is that I only have a small box freezer so I cannot buy a whole lot of meat. I regretted that I did not realized one of my neighbors was selling his new box freezer for only $90. Oh well, there is always next time
. By the way, my neighbor sold $54 for my free coupon stuffs I got last Saturday, so now I have $54 back to my April grocery budget, sweet !
Side Note : I get Publix’s meat manager to phone Albertson’s meat manager and asked how much a lb the buy 1 get 2 free pork was, he did phone and it was $7.99 a lb for the buy 1 get 2 free. So, do not be fool by buy 1 get 2 free, often times they jerk up the price to get you buy bigger quantities. So, always do your maths.

Jamy,
I never get the meat manager involved when I go to Publix, so I never have to pay Albertson’s prices! I just picked up 12 whole pork tenderloins this week and paid just $3-4 each for them (after the b1g2). By the way, that doesn’t include the $5 off coupons that I used in addition! If you calculate that into the totals, I really only paid $2-2.50 each.
Likewise, I have put two at a time in the crock pot (high for 3-4 hours with one bottle of italian dressing) or in the oven at 350F (~1 hour). I then serve it sliced with some bbq and a bun OR sliced with some mashed potatoes and a veggie!
No, I wanted the manager to call Albertson so I know what is Albertson price is. The whole pork tenderloins in Publix was $4.99 but in Albertsons it was $7.99 and publix also pack them into 2.5lbs to 3.5lbs a pack.
So if you calculate to $/lb, it is $4.99/3 (you buy 1 and get 3), so it is $4.99/3=$1.66
There were a lot on the shelves when I went there. The meat manager tell me in fact, it is cheaper on the whole pork picnic than the whole pork tenderloins. He tell me I could get the tenderloins if I want to but after my calculation, I decide on the whole pork picnic, which is $1 a lb. So I got like 20lbs for $11.
When it comes to meat, you should use $/lb, in this case, the Publix whole pork picnic is cheaper than the buy 1 get 2 free whole pork tenderloins ($4.99 a lb). It was marinated, of course but I have free B.B.Q sauce last week from Publix
.
So I was paying like 55cents for a lb of pork (with $14 coupons), which to me is extremely good, of course if I can pay only tax like all my other shopping, that is even better
How many lbs are there in your 12 packs and how much you pay just for curiosity
VERY interesting discussion going here! I am interested to see price per lb for Angela too. Either way, seems you both are getting amazing prices on meat!! What a blessing! Jamy, your mixture in the tubs sure looks delicious! Yummy!
