No overage, No competitor coupons, No 2 coupons

By Jamy

How would you handle this policy change if Publix execute these changes ?

nocoupons

a. No competitor coupons (No $5 off $25 CVS, no Target, no Foodlion)
b. No overage
c. No 2 coupons on buy 1 get 1 free products ? (only 1 coupon allow)

The reason that I am posting this is because I read many of you are having experience that some Publix are adjusting down your coupons so you won’t get overage (Lisa C has this experience with the Publix on Main street Publix on the nail clipper). And Mayra also wrote about it and so is Laura C. Nadine just wrote in that 13th street does not take $5 off $25 anymore.

One of the reasons I write about this is to prepare you for things that might happen in the future. Plan ahead. When I started doing blogging, my page rank (according to Google) was 3/10. I got a lot of paid assignment from advertisement company to write product review. I got paid $5 here, $15 there and I was making pretty good money while I was going through nursing school just writing advertisement.

Then one fine day, Google put a bomb, they slash our page rank to 0 for those of us who write paid review on our blog. So with 0 rank page view, advertiser no longer give us paid review to write.

A lot of people were crashed because that is their major source income.

I mean I am sad but I am not affected as much as people who depend on it as major source of income.

So, I like to challenge you to think outside of box that how would you do to continue saving money even if Publix takes the 3 coupon policy away ?

One thing would be to try and get a salvage grocery store in Gainesville, and especially if they take coupon too.
A salvage grocery store carries good food, just dented cans, squished boxes, discontinued items, etc. Nothing wrong with the food just not up to the standards of grocery chains.
The food is discounted as much as 80% off retail.
I know there are some of these stores around, just none near us.
Any takers on doing this??? hahaha

I would probably go back to eating sandwiches and soup all the time until we started having enough money coming in to eat normally.
This would be a very sad thing and I have a feeling that Publix would get so many complaints and lose so much business that they would either reinstate the old coupon policy or try something new.
And I think that there are enough store managers out there who want people to come in to Publix and feel welcome and they want our business so they would probably never stop coupons altogether.
But, if it ever did happen, I’d have to see if, using coupons regularly (one per item), it would still be worth shopping at Publix. It was always too expensive for me before Extreme Couponing–maybe I’d just buy the BOGOs.

Lisa, we have a couple of stores down here in Ocala like that. I’ve never been to one, but maybe if this ever happens I may!

  3. I pray to God that this doesn’t happen at Publix. I have quit shopping at Target, Walgreens and CVS because the deals require you to be a pain to others since these deals almost always require some sort of manager involvement. I would probably try to be content with BOGO with a coupon, but I know I would try other stores like Winn Dixie, and I would be forced to evaluate whether I really need the items.

I would do more shopping at Walmart. Sometimes Walmart’s regular prices are less than Publix’s sale prices.

Keep going. It is very interesting. I will add on my 2cents later.

I would continue to shop at Publix because their customer service is worth paying top dollar for. No amount of savings is worth me having to go to Wal-mart. I love that Jamy has shown me how to save money, but most “almost free” food coupons are for processed food that I try to avoid. I pay full price for my Publix favorites already (white mountain bread, anyone??). It might mean that I won’t donate as many of the freebies to my church, but on the whole, saving $0.50 is better than nothing!

Maybe I would start selling coupons on e-bay. There are so many ways to get multiple sets of coupons, so that may be a good way to start making money.

My Publix rarely has the coupon flyers everyone is referring to. For example, the only flyer they’ve had for a few weeks is the Pre-Game Savings. Even the Grape magazine rack has been empty. I’m wondering if these Publix flyers are getting picked up in mass to sell on Ebay??? Come to think of it, even the Blinker coupon machines are frequently empty. The store must have many extreme couponers.

I’m telling you, Green Thumb, it is like a scavenger hunt looking for Publix coupon booklets! I usually find some at this one particular store that I don’t normally shop at here in Ocala. In my earlier post about selling coupons I was talking about Sunday paper coupons (Red Plum, Smart Source), not Publix coupons. It is so irritating to hear about coupon booklets and not be able to find them, so I make sure that I only take a few when I see them.

Someone used the card to Publix, “Save for College”? and and have eCoupons used? or know how it works?

    Nicole,
Which store in Ocala do you usually shop at? I use Forty East, which is where the booklets are rare. It is very considerate of you to only take a few…I do the same & only take them if I see a coupon for something I use.

That’s where I shop! At 40 East! I can never, ever find anything there!!! I get most of my booklets at Churchill Square and Paddock. I shop at 40 East because it’s the closest to my house and it usually has free samples ;) .

Funny, Forty East is closest to my house too. What free samples…I never see any. Sometimes I go to Churchill Square if I have errands in that direction, but I don’t find them to be very coupon friendly. There is a sign that they will build a new Publix on Maricamp, which will be closest to me, but they haven’t broken ground yet.

We must live close to each other, Green Thumb. The Maricamp Publix would be great–I see the sign and count the days! 40 East has samples of their weekly dinner “specials”–usually the recipe in the flyer or other “Aprons” meals–they aren’t always giving out samples, but almost every time I’ve been there around dinner time they have something. It’s near the cheese section. Plus, their bakery usually has samples of whatever is featured that week from the bakery–this week it was cinnamon roll bread.

I also would be very disappointed if this happened. My husband and I are divorcing, he lost his job, so I am not getting child support or anything. I have a pretty darn good job at the VA; however, times are still tough. This blog has inspired me to save money in this area. Although, I have two young girls, 4 and 6, and do not have quite enough time to commit to it, but I have still been saving about 50% of my grocery bill, which is awesome to me! Thanks to Jamy for being such an inspiration. BTW, I work right across the street from you!

    Rachael,
Yes, almost free food coupons are for processed.
However, the beauty about this extreme couponing and while Public allow overage is to make full use of their overage.

Yesterday I got myself 20 nail clippers that is $1.49 each and I have 20 of the $2 coupon. Each of the clipper I make 50cents, 20 of them I made $10 and that enable me to buy fresh fruits and produce.

Just put 10 bags of Purina outside of your house and put a sticker that cheap pet food for sales (just sell them for $2 each), I am sure they will be gone within an hour without much effort. Use that $ to buy white mountain bread :)

If you do not have time to sell, I will sell for you so long as you go get the cat food. I will sell for you and give you $ for your white mountain bread :)

I am what you could call an “extreme couponer” as well, although I don’t resell my purchases for a profit. I think that purchasing 20 nail clippers for the overage is taking advantage of the system and it will make problems for us down the line.

    #4862
  19. Jamy

Yes, I can see your rational in that.

Do you think resale is bad ? Do you think if I keep those 20nails clippers are better than selling (don’t mean to challenge you. Before I do extreme couponing, I was already a bulk buyer, I used to go to Sam club and used to buy up 20 razors or clippers for my family, not that we used that many but we tend to misplace the clippers). I tend to sell things that I get for free and put that back to my budget. And because of the savings that I have in my grocery bill, I can do a lot of other fund raising stuffs.

Can you share how do you do your extreme couponing ?

I share my BOGO’s and free items with my adult daughter. We both save money by not wasting food. Other items that I find as freebies on the internet I donate to food shelters or other needy causes. I’ve also gotten into restaurant.com and their 80% deals (expires 9/30) Just yesterday I bought 3 dinners at Steak and Pasta works for $10 and some change. Portions are large enough to feed 5 people… I paid $2.00 for the $25 certificate. Saved me hours in the kitchen for a hot sit down meal
