I like to go through a few coupon web sites and come up with a scenario that is near free or free for my family and my readers. It took me a while to come up with this scenario. The coupon on BetterAtHome stated Limit 1 purchase per coupon per customer, so whether your publix let you buy more than 1 and use more than 1 coupon is still in question. So, try it and let us know.
(Side Note : I yet announce 2 of the give away winner, bear with me
)

You guys have taught me well…my time to brag…18 products for 81 cents. But I must admit that I goofed. I used an extra 40 cent coupon off Pillsbury that I shouldn’t have used but did not realize until just now. Also, the cashier couldn’t handle this many coupons so I had to take some to the service desk.
5 reusable bags 4.95
3 Progresso soups 3.75
1 gallon milk 3.09
1 loaf Publix oat bran bread 1.79

I have been couponing but trying to get better at it. What CVS coupons do you use, where do you get those at, i get the ones that are associated with my cvs card, like 4.00 of 20.00 purchase but can i use those at publix?
I just have to say THANK YOU, you are amazing and you have saved our family sooo much money. I found some of these deals, but the way you lay it out with the links is truely great to me.
Thanks soooo much to Jamy and everyone else who puts what they used!
Jejeta,
I just insert the CVSfluecoupon in my post.
Yes, Publix accept CVS coupon.
Greenthumb,
Some of the people who do not know me well think I boast about me being good in coupon and famous in this small town as I was stalked by people at Publix who were amazed by how much I save but I always tell people it is you yourself who should give thanks to because if you do not want to learn about how to save $ even if I tell you a million time, it is useless.
I have people surrounded me : neighbors, coworkers, mothers from kido school, who knew I do coupon but a lot of these people are not interested even I teach them, so you have yourself to thank, not me
Amanda,
. Thanks for your encouragement.
You are most welcome.
Do you know it is reader like you who has inspired me to continue finding deals
A lot of Chinese people believe in Karma and they believe that the best thing that a person can do to acquire good karma is to give food away to people who do not have. My maternal great grand father used to give food away to people who did not have food during the Japanese occupation of S.E. Asia period during 2nd world war. He had a small farm where he plant a lot of sweet potatoes, he used to give a lot of sweet potatoes away. There was a saying in my village that his descendants will have good fortune because of the good karma he had done. People still talked about it when my brother became a chartered Architect and my sister became a chartered accountant (American equivalent of CPA). They said it is because of the karma that my great grand father had acquired.
I am a Christian, I do not believe in Karma but I believe that it is a blessing to give. I make pretty good money as a register nurse but I always believe in living below my mean, so this extreme coupon has helped me to save a lot of money. Even with this economy downturn, I was given a raise for my annual review yesterday. Isn’t it amazing ?
Jamy with a smile
Thank you so much Jamy! I really appreciate all the work and time you take to create these scenarios. I am amazed and very blessed by how much our family has saved on our groceries since you taught me!
Jamy,
Thank you, thank you, thank you!!
I used to use coupons but only a few on a large order & no competitor coupons. I am still uncomfortable using so many coupons & feel myself getting very nervous as I shop. One of the things I do now is hand the coupons to the cashier for only one product at a time & I say what they are for, like saying here are 3 coupons for the 3 breads. The thing that messed up the cashier today is that I bought 18 items but had more than 18 coupons, so I took the extra coupons to the service desk. I now know that the mgr can override but I don’t want the customers behind me getting any more impatient than they already are, so I have my next trip all planned out with fillers. It will cost me more but will still be a tremendous savings.
If I keep up this type of savings I must send Jamy a thank you gift!
If anyone want to send me a thank you gift or anything. Please don’t. This is the best that you can do for me.
Save all your receipts in a box (keep the box in a safe place).
I wanted to recruit 10 members and we will meet in a monthly basic to do an account of how much we spend and save in a month.
We will compile all our savings and we will write a book about 10 women who saved $xx in a year. And we will pursue Oprah to get us into her show when we have our book, ha ha ha ha.
Once our book is recommended by Oprah, we all will have the book copy right and royalty shared equally by the 10 of us
And we will have our retirement ‘kow tim’ (Malaysian words meaning taken care of
:))
Cool ?
Green Thumb,
These are a few basic things about extreme coupon you might want to take it to heart :
1. Number of coupons = Number of items you buy
(if you have more coupons than items, get a few cheap items , that is what we call fillers. My fillers in Publix are things such as instant noddles 4 for 87cents, lemon for 20cents).
You do not want to always ask customer service to over ride, you do not want to cause unnecessary attention to yourself.
One of my readers pointed out recently that there is a couponer who is banned from shopping in certain store.
I always teach my readers do not bring unnecessary attention to himself/herself
2. The value of coupon should not exceed value of goods.
Most stores do not give overage.
Best things to do is use the overage to buy items that do not have coupons, eg fresh produce, vegetables, etc.
In that case, your family will still be able to enjoy fresh vegetables or fruits.
3. I know this one can be challenging. Always do your shopping in $25 lots cos you can always make use of the $5 off $25 CVS coupons. I know it will need a lot more trips than say if you buy $50 or $100 worth of goods.
4. This one is the most important one :
Do your math before you go to the stores.
Calculate
how much the food cost
how much coupon worth
how many food items you have
how many coupons you have
5. Contingency planning
Sometimes stores run out of items you have planned to get.
Don’t get panic. Go to a quiet corner and do the calculation.
6. Shopping time
Do not go during lunch time
Do not go after office hours (from 3pm to 6pm)
If you can , go in the early morning and late at night
Jamy,
Thanks for the tips. Those all are exactly what I’ve been doing over the past week or 2 as I’ve been learning. I was always very friendly with the cashiers and front end mgrs before I started extreme couponing, and I continue to now…this helps. I talked to the mgr today and she said a lot of people are using many coupons now.
Jamy, I do not have the betterathome booklet and I went to publix tonight and they do not have any. Do you know were to get them at?
thanks
I got them from Hunter crossing a few weeks back. Am not sure if they still have any.
Which Publix do you go ?
Do you live in Gainesville ?
Try printing the pdf format I have posted. Might be they will accept the printable copy.
ok, I hav found my eat better at home, however, it must be something different, because there are 1 off3 hamburg helpers, but not off meat. Maybe I am misunderstanding this.. thanks
Sorry for all the trouble I found it online! and printed it. Has anyone tried to use more then 1 coupon? Because from what I read it is 1. But with certain cashiers I am sure it will depend.
Thanks all sorry again
Amanda,
Don’t have to say sorry.
I link the pdf file in the post. You must have missed it.
What version you gotten at store ? $1 off 3 hamburger, that is good. Where did you get those booklet.
Cos it makes the scenario even better :
Buy 6 hamburger helper $6
$2 off hamburger + $1.50 Manufacture Q = $3.50
So if you combine with the betterathome and yours, you are making 50cents on the scenario.
Use that 50cents to buy banana
Hi,
I am new to trying to extreme coupon. I am kind of frustrated. My frustration lies in that a lot of the deals seem to be available are for a lot of processed type foods. I generally stay away from as much as I can. To be able to save the way you do, do you have to change your eating/buying habits. Do you do a lot of running around to different stores or do you tend to shop only a Publix. I feel I have a challenge on my hands. We currently allow $250 a month in our budget for food items only for a family of 4. My husband wants to cut it back even more. I have been trying the buy 1 get 1 free from Publix and Winn Dixie and using coupons on those items if I can, but I don’t really find any extreme savings. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Brenda
Jamy, I will collect receipts for October. My goal for October is to try to do smaller transactions to maximize savings. Does anyone know if HC takes Target cpns? They do take $/$$ CVS which they didn’t used to, but I haven’t tried Target in there and the last time I asked (months ago) they said no…..wondering how many people will be doing special orders on TollHouse LOL? That is such a good deal and my dh and dd will surely love those cookies. I like that it is only 2 dozen at a time – less for me to gobble up and get fat on. Defrosted and organized deepfreeze yesterday and then ordered 30 cpns for TH cookies. Also, a fellow couponer gave me a tip that the Publix at Millhopper runs out of stuff more quickly (= rainchecks) because they are a smaller store…
Go here for $1 on 1 Pillsbury crescent rolls
no link?
Hi laura I forgot the link I put it in a message right after it but it didn’t post. I don’t know if messages with links have to be approved or not but i did a couple today and they haven’t shown up. May have to wait for jamy to get home from work.
Kevin,
I did not see an link ?
Ok, here is a tip from a friend of mine, when doing the ground beef deal, go to the butcher and get them to package them in 6 1/2 lbs. other wise they will not do it. But someone did do this and she said it worked!!
Jamy,
You may have this somewhere and I have not noticed it yet, but I would like to suggest an area on your blog that lists “filler” ideas. You suggested lemon and instant noodles. A great filler for my family is a head of garlic which is approximately 23 cents.
Ok i have tried 3 or 4 different ways but everytime I try to submit a post with a link the post doesn’t show up. Strange. Maybe it is some security setting you have in this reply software Jamy.
any way if you go to I Heart Publix on the home page there is a link under “Better grab these Coupons” for $1.10 off 3 Progresso soups
also on I heart publix click on the weekly add, then the first “Here”, go down to the comments, go to the older comments right now that would be page 1, go down to the bottom on “Kay”’s comment (right above mine on that page
) you will see a link for $1 on 1 Pillsbury crescent rolls. With that and the $1 Q when you buy soup you make $1 per roll
Kevin
um not to be a wet blanket Jamy but according to my coupons you only get 1 green bag for 2 gm cereals. also you only get $1 off Orange Juice for 2 gm cereal. That would change your senerio a bit only getting 1 green bag and the total OOP will be $2.25. Still a wonderful deal.
Sorry my math was off make that $3.25 again a good deal
Hey Kevin,
Actually, the Green Bag coupon states that you buy 2 General Mills Products and get the free bag. All of the products on that sheet are General Mills, so you could get 2 bags for the Progresso, Hamburger Helper, Cereal or Crescent Rolls. The orange juice coupon is for the cereal.
Jamy, the other Better At Home coupon booklet is the one that has recipes and lots of coupons for General Mills products. They are all manufacturers coupons.
yup your right nicole.
Yes, but there is a web page and the better home came in the newpaper a few weeks ago, this is just a single sheet with items on it. The booklet is great for the $1.00 off 3 hamburg. helpers. Here is the link I have been using for it! Hopefully this will ease some of this.

Hi all,
Now you all made me confuse now.
So we have 2 version of betterathome coupon booklet ? The one I see in store is the same as the pdf Amanda posted.
Seems like Nichole has different version that I have.
I was a bit concern cos the coupon say 1 coupon per customer but a few friends of mine did it on thur and today, they used a number coupons (6 hamburger helpers, no problem, YES !)
And guess who I saw today, our lovely Mayra, she was all happy showing me her receipts on how much she saved. Good on you Mayra
Green Thumb,
Yes, I will take your suggestion. Have to go to office, help my friend in yard sales etc. Visit an old couple whom I have not seen.
Life is short, despise all the free Dr. Pepper, I do believe I should learn to smell roses
, so I visit an elderly couple friend today.
By the way, did you know Dr. Pepper is money making $.
It is $1 each.
If you have yellow advantage flyer, there is a $2/3 and there is a $1/2 triatholon, so if you buy 6 Dr. P, it is
$6
-2 of the $2/3 = $4
-3 of the $1/2 = $3
total out of pocket = -$1
If you buy 18 Dr. P, that is
$18
Coupon used
6x $2= $12
9x $1 = $9
CVS $5 = $5
———–
$26
Make $8. Use the $8 overage to buy fresh produce.
Brenda, if you are reading this comment, this is what I mean by saying it is a myth that couponers only consumer processed food.
If you read at one of my post, I posted a whole bunch of fresh vegetables and fruits that I bought for free.
That is why extreme couponing is so powerful that we can eat as much fresh produce as non couponer consumers. The only difference is we have our food either free or near free.
It is what I say ‘thinking outside of the box’
Green thumb,
Bear with me, I will go do some work on my site to put those fillers in. Thank you so much for your suggestions.
Love love love the lovely conversation. Thanks for the input. Love you guys, have a great weekend.
Laura,
I am so tempted to buy the cookies coupons, decided not too. I think I will use overage to buy more fruits for kido and myself too
Aren’t we all spoiled by rain check ?
How we are going to survive without extreme coupon ?
:):)
Kido who is 6yrs old ask me while we were in the store , mama why aren’t these people doing coupon ? What can I tell kido ?
laura c-
I used to use target coupons all the time at hunters crossing, but about a month ago they told me they stopped accepting target coupons…not sure if this is depending on which manager is there at the time?
PLEASE, if anyone has luck with target coupons at hc, please tell me how long ago and if poss with which cashier???
I was in another part of town yesterday & shopped at a Publix that I’ve never been to, Heathbrook Commons. I ran into something that I’ve never seen mentioned on this site. They require $25 in items that CVS carries in order to use the 5 off 25 CVS coupon…in other words, they would not count my meat & produce. I know I’ll be avoiding Heathbrook Commons going forward.
Green Thumb,
That’s a really strange requirement! I used mine at Paddock yesterday along with the $5/25 from Dollar General that came in Thurs. mail. Did you see that one? It was with the Papa John’s pizza coupon packet of flyers.
Nicole,
Thanks for the heads up on the Dollar General coupon but I missed it & it is gone in the garbage now…Oooops!
Do you use A CVS 5 off 25 and a Dollar General 5 off 25 on one $25 order or are you spending $50 to use both?
I actually used both on an order that was about $90 before coupons. I used the CVS one accidentally–I originally was going to use the KMart 5/50, but gave her the CVS one instead. She took both.
Green Thumb/Nicole-
I used 2 of the $5 off 25 dollar general, 1 of the cvs flu $5 off 25, and 1 of the walgreens $5 off 25 for my $100 order at hunters crossing publix. BTW, I called HC today and they said they accept target as a competitor. Yeah!!!, I had stopped using them b/c a manager had told me they stopped accepting these, but it seems the rules change often or depends on the cashier.

Goodmorning,
I tried this last last night at tower, it did not work. I ended up leaving with nothing. My casher said they say 1 per person. I asked for the manager, the customer service girl at tower, whom I have had issues with before, said nope the mamagers said we are scamming publix. So, by the time I was done, I was so frustrated with her I left with nothing. I am not scamming anyone, they put the coupon out, and from my understanding it does not say 1 coupon per person per day as she stated. I will try this again after I go and speak with the GM of publix.
Amanda,
I’m confused. Please explain exactly which coupons they had issue with.
Green Thumb,
I called and spoke with a manager today and they said it is ok. I bought 6 boxes of ham. helper. And 6 1/ lbs of meet. ANd they said the 1 off meet was 1 per person. So, I called a few minutes ago and they said they would take it next time go to CS if there is an issue. But I have 4 small kids. So, I have to plan my list before going in and I am out with in 15 minutes. To have to wait additional time is a no go for young babies! I will try this again tonight but it should work. I wrote down the name of the person whom I spoke with.
I had a friend post about your website yesterday. I tried to print the cresent rolls coupon and it wouldnt let me but I did find a $1 off coupon on Pillsbury’s website for Grands biscuits. I went to publix last night and bought the items. The betterathome coupons I had said you get 1 reusable bag for 2 boxes of GM cereal and save $1 on OJ instead of $2. I also bought Egg Beaters there. They are on sale for $1.67 and I used a $1 manufacturer coupon and got it for .67. My total came to $2.72!!! Thank You so much!!! I told my friends about this and they all wanna know how! Can’t wait to see how you save next!!!
I’m running into a problem & am wondering if anyone else is seeing the same thing or if I’m goofing something up. When I look at the Publix sales with the coupon matchups on internet sites, my coupon flyer for that date usually does not have the coupon. For example, my Smart Source flyer does not have this one:
Bertolli Olive Oil
-$1/1 from 09-13-09 SS
I know coupons change by region but I’m finding it frustrating that mine (Ocala) usually don’t match up.
Hello,
I went to Jonesville and it took 35 min to check out, but it worked! I ended up paying 9.99 for the above plus 9 lbs of ground beef and 2 pillsbury cookies. So, for a few more bucks I have enough ground beef for all the helpers and more. Thanks- note: I personally will not shop at Jonesville publix again. My cashiers was had great customer service, but they had no idea how to handle coupons. And the service manager was not so friendly.
Green Thumb,
Some coupons must be regional or something. I couldn’t find the Bertolli oil coupon either. I posted on hotcouponworld about this and someone from SW Florida said that she did not get it either. Too bad! It’s still a good deal BOGO though, I guess.

I wish I’d realized sooner that using the $2/1 healthy choice IP (and there is a blinkie according to the cashier) I’d have had 40 cents overage on every box. This would have been much less…..oh well, this way I still have freezer space LOL.
Goodness me Laura, you guys must really love those cookies
JB talked about the healthy choice, I did not do it. I concentrate on Dr. Pepper and humburger helper and the ground beef this week.
Please keep the receipts, remember the project, ok.
They freeze well; my husband will actually cook these himself and between he and my dd they will eat them all – win/win – no making cookies for me (and no way can i make them for 0.60/dozen BIG cookies). And with any luck only a few leftover once in awhile.
receipts in safe place.
