Date : 11/12/09

Goodness me, finally the book makes it way to Gainesville, Florida !

winterbooklet

Did you get any ?

I remembered last year, it saved me a lot of money using coupons from the booklet.

There are both Publix store coupons and Manufacturer coupons.

HCW has of course done a good job by listing all the coupons HERE

See any good deals ?

North Main Street has them by the customer service counter as of today!! HOORAY! On a side note, heard that Publix in Gainesville will be only taking one competitor coupon per person for items such as cereal…example only one target coupon and one manufacturer coupon per person/per item. I think this is absolutely resonable, we don’t want Publix saying no completely on the use of competitor coupons.

The publix in Newberry Sqaure (the one next to Kmart) had a bunch of them yesterday!

    katie,
That is a great idea. I will do that too for next year Christmas shoe box ministry that my son school has. This year, his item is small car and small boy and I already has one.

I had gotten two of the Ore-Ida Steam & Mash and had two MQ and two FLIPs, they would only let me use one FLIP. I had other items too. I had enough items for coupons, but they refused to take the FLIP and they would not take the $5/25 Wags. I did not have any Target at the time.
I went this morning to Springhill and did not have any problems using either Target or FLIP, I did (like a big dummy) forget my $5/25 wags at home.
I am thinking that I will stick with Springhill and Old Albertson’s Publix.

My Publix (Heathbrook in Ocala) told me today that they would no longer be accepting manufacturer coupons along with competitor coupons. You could use Publix coupon and a competitor coupon, or a Publix coupon and manufacturer coupon. It makes no sense to me either way! The did, however, let me purchase today with my coupons. I purchased 10 boxes of Kellogg’s Froot Loops and Apple Jacks to donate to the food bank. They were B1G1 for 3.99 and I used the Target $1 any Kellogg’s cereal and a $1 off one Froot Loops or Apple Jacks cereal that I got from a blinkie several weeks ago in Publix. So, they were free. I bought some misc. stuff with that to equal the # of coupons, but that was my major purchase. I have two kids, ages 4 and 7 and we’re putting together a box to take to the food bank. Teaching kids to be charitable is definitely a top priority, and what better way to do it than coupon so you can make the most out of your donation. I’m sure the hungry will appreciate all of it. Thanks, Jamy, for inspiring me! :-)

Thanks Brandi, That is very honorable of you.

    Kati, thanks for the email.

You know sometimes I wonder why our country believe in welfare system so much, we prefer food stamp to coupons ?

Why we prefer to give our tax $ to food stamp than teaching others to learn how to do coupons or live within their means.

I have people who wrote to me and complain that because of couponers, the shelves are emptied and that because of extreme couponers , stores started changing policies etc… And that Publix managers are reading this sites and other coupon sites and they are not happy.

I shake my head reading that. If everyone learn how to use coupons and save some $ on their grocery budget and learn to live within our mean, we won’t be the nation with the biggest debts : http://www.brillig.com/debt_clock/

Isn’t it scary to think that our next next generation have to pay that debts to China, Japan and Koreans ?

Publix might not even have the means to operate because who have the $ to buy goods from Publix without coupons ? (Might be UF football coach wife, Shands MD, CEO of companies ….) Would you go shopping in Publix without coupons or you would go to Walmart ? Seriously, I have never step foot in Publix prior to coupons but Save A Lot and Walmart.

As couponers, please be honest and think of your other couponers, if you cheat the system, we will go down with you. Might be it is not the end of the world for those of us who have recession proof job but think of others where coupons help them from living on the street !

Thank you for my rant ! I was sick the last few days, no coupon shopping for me :)

On 11/6, at Springhill, the manager told me it would be the last time to except $5/25 prior to all other Q’s and it would be limited to only 1 of those per day. She stated all managers in g-ville had a meeting that day and they are going to have same rules in all g-ville for Q’s. She said General Managers said to let couponers use Q’s one last time as they were used prior, but to let them know that it would be the last time. She said they had not yet had meeting with cashiers about new Q rules, but that would be happening soon. It sounds like that is what is happening.

It seems rules change so frequently, we will have to ride this one out and see if it lasts. I hope we can all continue discussion about new policies as we find them.

I don’t believe in being rude to cashier/manager, I try to know I will get better deal later or sometimes finish transaction and discuss with customer service politely later… I do find it quite frustrating how rules change so frequently- it makes it difficult to plan shopping trips.

I only coupon at publix, but if they really are going to enforce using the Q last and CVS lets you use it first, it seems some couponers will give their business back to CVS…

    Liz,
Walgreens sometimes have great deal. I started CVS and Walgreens but move on to Publix but I will now check into Walgreens and even Target.
How about family store and Save A lot.

I remember during tax return season, Save A lot had this deal if you buy $20 gift card, you pay $15, saved $5 and at that time, I was not couponing yet, so I bought a lot of those gift cards cos it is outfront saving $5.

I think the best approach to weather this storm, might just be the good ole “What works best for me” idea.
For some people, what works best for them will be to stick with strictly Publix even if it means paying a few dollars more. For some people, spreading their business around to places like Target, CVS, Walgreens, and wherever else is going to be the best approach.
I personally have never been one to NOT shop someone just because I liked Publix the best. I went where the deals were because it was a financial necessity.
In addition, to address the “unfairness” that some people complain of in regards to couponers: Most couponers are doing this to simply trim their own budget (like me, either I did this or we would starve). There are others who seem to get a little greedy.
For example: I was in Target the other day trying to get the Up/Monsters Inc Blu Ray deal for my kids Christmas, but there was a lady standing at the display clearing out seemingly everything there was a coupon deal for because (as she said to her commrade) “I am going to make a profit selling these on EBay.” Fantastic, while you are making a profit, I can’t get my kids the Christmas gift I wanted. (I did eventually find Up stashed behind another DVD while I combed the DVD section). This stuff happens on Black Friday too when there are movies that are like $2.
When it comes to food, I get enough to last my family until the next deal, but seriously, when someone does shelf clear, it makes it a real disappointment for the next person.
My main point is that I try not to be greedy because that isn’t a good thing. Don’t get me wrong, I had an incident where the greedy monster bit me. I was getting skillet meals really cheap/free so I got a bunch of them. Well, unfortunately, I guess I forgot that I have only so much freezer space…and they wouldn’t all fit…oops. Having no family in town I had to fix a double order for dinner and go back to the store to return them.
I hope that Publix doesn’t get unreasonable, because like I said, if I can’t coupon, I’ll be up the creek without a paddle. I think that imposing some limits is reasonable. I had a nice long chat with a manager regarding the competitors coupons. I was really mad the first time they wouldn’t let me use multiple Target/FLIPs but Publix loses that money. They don’t get reimbursed for other stores coupons. Even other stores MQs if it says redeem only at XXXXXXXX. I think that allowing us to use the $X/XX is fair provided that we follow the guidelines set forth in the coupon. I want Publix to continue to make a profit especially in such bad economic times and the more people who use coupons, the less money they are going to make. Which means they are going to get less friendly, which is bad news for us.
Sorry this was really long, I just got started and kept on going :-) Good luck to all couponers and hopefully we will all come out ahead.

    Jennifer,
Not, don’t worry about long post. In fact, I appreciate you guys who take the time to write.

I went to Hunter crossing today.

They still take the $x off $Y
They still take as many MQ as you have
But one thing they change is they will only take 1 store coupon regardless how many you purchase.

I believe we should be fine.

  25. liz

    Jamy-
Did you have to hand in $x off $y last or could you use it first, before other Q’s?

    #5620
  26. Jamy

    Liz,
There is no change of rule on $x off $Y. I hand in all my coupons at the same time, gave the cashier everything. She called the mgr, apparently I think there is a big mgr meeting.
Mgr came by and told me about the changes in the store coupon policy, ie only 1 store coupon .

It would be really great if any of the employees/managers of Publix who happen to read this forum would leave comments to help clear up our questions about coupons and Publix!!

I wonder if maybe we can get Publix to finally put their coupon policy in writing? That would save so many of us confusion!

    At Hunters Crossing today

Only 1 competitor coupon of any kind.

i.e. can NOT use 1 $5 off 25 CVS AND 1 $1 off kelloggs cereal target on same day- Only 1 competitor per person per day :(
