Frugal Challenge 09 : Total spend – $478.24
Date : 01/04/10
Yes, I achieved my goal for 2009.
My coupon buddy, Tracey set up a yahoo group titled Frugal Challenge 09 in the beginning of the year.
I have set a goal for $1000 and I ended up spending $478.24. This is Oct/Nov/Dec totals and you can read the chronological detail of the challenge HERE.
And I still got lots of stuff in my pantry for 2010
I do not know how many cans of beans you have gotten but I am sure have lots of them
One of my girlfriends told me Method hand soap is very gentle on the hand and I thought since I still have $500 to spend, why not indulge some ?
So here you goes, blue, orange, white, blue, you name it , I have it, Method hand soap …

I still have at least 50bottles of ALL laundry detergent ![]()

And many many stock piles which I would not elaborate here.
Some of you who are very concern about my ‘MIA’ as you have not see me post any articles have send me concern emails and wonder if I am alright.
Be at peace, I am perfectly alright, I have been busy the last month. Not so much of the festive seasons kind of busy but we have been looking for a new home and also I have been working a lot of extra shift in the new year as my husband and my boy went to visit grandpa in the N.E. Ever since my dad passed on in Jan 2008, my mom have not been doing well so I am saving my holiday to visit her. As the flight and journey took about 30hours, I might as well go for a longer trip , right ?
But, I want to thank you for your moral support and also thanks for all of you who post comments and help out one another in our small community : Gainesville
As we enter 2010, do you have set a goal for yourself in term of extreme couponing ?
I have decided to set myself $1000 + $521.76 = $1521.76 (the $521.76 is carried forward from 2009).
Let us do better this year in term of extreme couponing !

If you continue to share your awesome scenarios for deals, I will set a goal for $500 less than this year’s budget which was $2600. So, new budget is $1900 for 2010, only $9.60 less per week, giving me a budget of $40.40 per week. I plan to track better this year – I’m pretty sure I came in under $2600, but honestly I don’t really know.
Laura,
I think it is very ‘important’ to set a budget at the beginning of the year in order to do this extreme budget stuff.
Iheartpublix come up with a great excel sheet for shopping.
I think this year, I am going to include 2 columns on how much I saved and how much which are yard sales.
I challenge Julie to get her budget up by this week. She has 7 people in her budget and she said she would set $2500, do you think that is reasonable ?
Might be others who read it might want to share their 2010 budget ?
I don’t know about setting a budget, but I will start keeping track of how much I am spending. My goal for the year is to start donating to St Francis House. I am starting this week by giving them the Ivory soap that was on a deal.
OK so you put mine up here for me
my biggest goal is to get more shelves up and get more organized! As long as we start getting good deals again, I don’t think I’ll have any problem with $2500 for the year. Which that’s incredible to think that I was spending between $400-500/mo before couponing and not helping the extra 2 people! And there’d still be times when the cabinets and fridge got bare. My cabinets and fridge haven’t been bare since August!
I have learned so much about couponing and feel very comfortable with Publix extreme couponing at this point. I have decided to take on a new store and would love advice from other couponers on Walgreens. I started this week and I will admit it is a litle confusing. With Walgreens, there is another step in calculation that is not so with Publix. I think it will pay off in the end- but if anyone can offer any advice I would love it as it is new for me. I have been reading up on Walgreens on other sites, but if people can tell me there favorite sites, that would be great!
I’m trying to figure out a good scenerio to go with the electrol that’s free after rr, but it’s difficult since I don’t have many rr to roll. I’ve got 5rr from glucose monitor, but then I’d have to eat 4rr on other items and it doesn’t seem that there’s really too many other good deals this week. Maybe I should just get electrol, pay OOP $1 after Q and have 1rr each for next week? Any advice?
Liz,
Iheartwags
Hounding with frugalsuz
and of course hotcouponworld
are 3 of the best sites for Walgreens deals.
You can get really good deals with Walgreens. I got about 3 years of free toilet paper from them
Post your deals on Walgreens if you find any, I am sure there are many who would love to do WGs too.
Thanks
Jamy
I appreciate the advice. Thanks Jamy
