This is my 3rd week into ” Eat from Pantry Challenge “.

Today I am cooking Turkey/Bean Burger.

I used a lb of ground turkey, 3 cans of black beans and everything else from my pantry’s stock pile… I grounded the black beans…

I used Hunt’s sliced tomatoes and organic tomato sauce to make the sauce. Remember last week Cascadian Farm brocholi ? Well, with some rice, it make a real nice meal…

Or you can always eat with pasta …

How many burgers did you get out of this recipe? I made some w/o meat and the yield was 18 from 4 cans beans (plus seasonings but no bread crumbs)

    Laura,
    I think about 30’s.

I used 1 lb of meat + 3 cans of beans.

I used some of the left over bean to fry some of the left over porks I have.

I am one of the few Asians who does not like soy food :) , does not like tofu and a real meat eater but I am trying to cut down meat slowly.

I do not think I can eat a real bean burger, need to have some meat :)

This is really a great way to save $ and also healthy.

I know we get a whole lot cheaper process food when there is buy 1 get 1 free but I wanted to cook more fresh food this year and see if I still can keep my budget.

With beans, it cut down a lot of $ from meat so in this way, I think about $5 a week of meat budget would be enough and veg around $5, if you can do $10 a week, that is $520 and try to get the rest of the household stuff free.

Since I have gotten so many I can’t believe it is butter, I hardly buy any cooking oil. I think they are as good as cooking oil.

I think this pantry cooking really challenge me each week to plan and think of what I can cook from my pantry. I like it.

I think when I first started extreme coupon, it is not so much of the $, it is the challenge of ‘what on earth can someone only pay $800 a year for the grocery bill ? ‘. Well, I did it, so the next challenge is really cooking from the pantry’s stock pile :)

Jamy, I think pantry cooking is a lost art! I think the bean/burger idea is fabulous! Would these taste just as good as say meatballs? do they hold together well? Sometimes when we get lots of good deals on certain items, I sometimes think, ok, so now what do I do with it? I missed any black bean deal..that is too bad, so many good things to make with black beans and our favorite is just plain black beans/onions/spices with rice. Looking forward to more recipes!

    Hugs to you…

    Tracey,
I miss you, have not talk to you for so long…
The bean burger is a bit different but for some reasons, JJ love it so much, he love it and I made sandwich for him, with cheese and tomatoes.
