Why Seaykopitiam ?

Seay is my husband family name.
Kopi is coffee in Malay language
Tiam is shop in Chinese language

I was born in Borneo island to a Chinese parent.

Borneo island is the world 3rd largest island.

According to Wikipedia, Borneo Island is
“Borneo (Indonesian: Kalimantan; Malay: Borneo) is the third largest island in the world, located north of Australia, at the geographic centre of Maritime Southeast Asia. Politically, the island is divided among three countries: Indonesia, Malaysia and Brunei. Approximately 73% of the island is Indonesian territory; the Indonesian name for the island, Kalimantan, is used in English to refer to the Indonesian-controlled territory. The Malaysian states of Sarawak and Sabah (East Malaysia), in the north, occupy about 26% of the island. The sovereign state of Brunei, located on the north coast, comprises about 1% of Borneo’s land mass”

If you can find the word “Kuching”, that was where I was born. I am a Malaysian citizen (prior to a naturalized American) and of Chinese ethnic decent.

According to Wikipedia definition of Kopitiam :

“A kopitiam or kopi tiam is a traditional breakfast and coffee shop found in Malaysia and Singapore in Southeast Asia. The word is a portmanteau of the Malay word for coffee (as borrowed and altered from the Portuguese) and the Hokkien dialect word for shop (店; POJ: tiàm). Menus typically feature simple offerings: a variety of foods based on egg, toast, and kaya, plus coffee, tea, and Milo, a malted chocolate drink which is extremely popular in Southeast Asia, particularly Singapore and Malaysia.”

“Coffee shop talk”
“Coffee shop talk” is a phrase used to describe gossip because it is often a familiar sight at kopi tiams where a group of workers or senior citizens would linger over cups of coffee and exchange news and comments on various topics including national politics, office politics, TV dramas, and food.

My version of kopitiam
Welcome to Seay’s Kopitiam!

In the past, Kopitiam was a place where news were exchanged, business deals were made, trades bartered, rumors were spread. Likewise, in the e-age, information are share without boundary.

4/20/10 update :
This blog has evolved since I started blogging during the summer of 2007. It started with a wide range of topics from investment, politics and etc.

Then I narrowed it down to mainly on couponing in 2008. I was doing very well in extreme coupon. Gainesville Sun Newspaper send their crew to my house to film my 3 years supply of free toilet paper. Since then I have been blogging about coupon deals.

As this blog evolved, I wanted to widen my blog topics. This year I wanted to modify my blog a little bit, I like to include :
1. Productivity
How do I make myself more productive as I enter into my 50 birthday.

2. Home school journey
This is a journal of me home schooling my son on a part time basic.

3. Extreme coupon with a twist.
I wanted to make my extreme coupon a little bit more efficient than it is now.

4. Home and Garden
The ideas are still forming.
