OPM : Other people’s money.

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

While I was working for a business man in Asia, one of his business partners used to tell me my boss should named his company “OPM”. At that time, I did not know much about OPM. I thought might be my boss partner recognized my boss being very Westernized and should used “OPM” as the ‘AKA’ name for his company “Yuan Textile” . However, as I got to know my boss partner better, I realized OPM in fact means other people’s money in short. I think his partner was being sarcastic to my boss and trying very hard to hint to me that my boss used other people’s money to operate his business :).

The 5 quadrants of success - Part I (2).

As we continue our The 5 quadrants of success series : The 5 quadrants of success - Part I (1).

Me on a Rhine cruise at a sunny afternoon in Germany.

The Rhine Gorge is a popular name for the Upper Middle Rhine Valley, a 65 km section of the River Rhine between Koblenz and Bingen in Germany. It was added to the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites in June 2002 for a unique combination of geological, historical, cultural and industrial reasons. The river has been an important trade route into central Europe since prehistoric times and a string of small settlements has grown up along the banks. Constrained in size, many of these old towns retain a historic feel today. With increasing wealth, many castles appeared and the valley became a core region of the Holy Roman Empire where the famous Counts of Katzenelnbogen collected their silver treasure.
This part of the Rhine features strongly in folklore, such as a legendary castle on the Rhine being the setting for the opera Götterdämmerung. The annual Rhine in Flames festivals include spectacular firework displays at Sankt Goar in September and Koblenz in August, the best view being from one of a convoy of boats.

A brilliant idea that turned 2 million to 1 billion.

This is not a paid post. I just could not stop myself from writing this.
I love to read creative idea that make it into million and billions . One of my girlfriends shared with me about how we could benefit from this Southerning (Is there such English, ie going South) economy a week ago and I was very excited about it. Well, that is another topics for another day. But, today I want to blog about these 2 brilliant women,

who at in a cafe in the fall of 1999, excited about a concept they had seen in Berlin while on vacation. Cars were parked around the city for members to drive by the hour instead of owning their own vehicles. They had a Eureka! moment (or maybe it was more like, “Duh! What an obvious idea.”) They put an American spin on it - outfitting the cars with wireless technology, creating a hassle-free reservation system and strategically placing the cars around key cities and neighborhoods. In June of 2000 the first Zipcars were on the road. The masses could now drive cars by the hour or day - on their terms.

The 5 quadrants of success - Part I (1).

When I was 38, I had a cerebral vascular accident (or layman term : stroke). Before I had the stroke that day, I was managing 2 companies for a very successful business man in Asia. One of them was a franchise computer school and the other a computer retail store. Though I was born with congenital heart disease, I had always been very healthy and took great pride of my health !

At our 20’s, we both had the world under our feet : me, a CS grad. from Sydney University from Australia ; she, a CS grad. from Princeton. But, my world fell apart after the stroke as I lied on the cold hospital bed having Hemiparesis.

3 articles about economy, your $ and your right.

With the overloading of information on the internet, how do you shift through all the junks to find good investment articles ?

Well, I love the writings of Dr John P. Hussman.

John is an adjunct assistant professor of economics and international finance at the University of Michigan - but don’t be dismayed; his other job is running Hussman Econometrics Advisors, where he manages money for individuals and institutions (he’s an equal-opportunity money manager).
